Exciting News from December:
On Dec. 4, team members from New Horizons and Cia Siab Inc. attended the La Crosse area budget listening session with Governor Evers to address critical funding issues impacting our ability to serve victims of domestic and sexual violence. Both of our agencies lost essential funding from the Victims of Crime Act, which will have a devastating effect on the services we provide. During the session, advocates passionately called for support for the 2025-2027 state budget biennium, specifically urging for the approval of the $66 million Department of Justic funding request. This funding is critical to ensure the ongoing safety and support of victims and survivors in our community.
On Dec. 12, Bremer Bank employees dropped off 25 pre-packed welcome home kits. These kits, which are provided to clients as they transition into new, safe homes free from abuse, provide essential items to help survivors get started and settle into their new spaces. Bremer Bank has been providing these much-needed kits for that several years!
On Dec. 22, The Rotary Lights Food Drive collected non-perishable food items for our shelter. Thanks to the amazing support of our community, a tremendous amount of food was collected, and we are so thankful for everyone that contributed. Additionally, another huge thank you to members of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) who volunteered their time that night to help unload the food items and carry the boxes into the basement. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
Our Holiday Program is truly a community effort, and we are incredibly grateful for the support we receive each year. Led by our amazing Youth and Family Advocate, Jen, this program connects sponsors with individuals and families in need, ensuring they have gifts to brighten their holiday season. Jen does an exceptional job of organizing this effort, interacting with sponsors, and coordinating gift drop-offs and pickups. For the first two weeks each December, she brings warmth and joy to our office with her holiday cheer and festive sweaters!
This year, we also had several businesses and organizations host donation drives, collecting essential items from our needs list. The turnout was truly incredible, and we are so thankful to all of our sponsors who helped make this program a success for another year!
